Project Background
In April 2023, a customer ordered a new domestic grab to be delivered to a ship at Nanjing Port. The Nanjing Port terminal and nearby bridges have height limits, and conventional land transport trucks could not deliver the grab as a whole to the terminal, severely affecting the ship loading and unloading schedule.
Key Challenges
The grab is large and cannot be disassembled; land transport trucks are restricted by Nanjing Port bridge and road height limits and cannot pass; rerouting would also significantly increase transport cost and time, not matching the ship schedule. The customer required delivery the same day, leaving an extremely tight time window.
Solution
AMTS urgently evaluated a waterway transport plan, matched suitable ship resources for the shipowner within 10 minutes, and arranged loading, lashing, escort and handover overnight, tracking waterway transport dynamics throughout to ensure next-morning berthing and delivery.
Project Result
The grab was perfectly delivered at 5:30 a.m., and the ship schedule was not delayed at all. The shipowner highly praised AMTS's rapid response and multimodal transport dispatching ability under the height limit challenge, consolidating AMTS's reputation in special large-cargo logistics dispatching.
