In August 2023, the shipowner urgently needed 1 set of stern shaft cylinder liner (AFT LINER, model SKF SC3-530) for a ship at Zhoushan anchorage. Anchored ships may stop sailing at any time if spare parts are not in place, the time window was short, and the shipowner required a class society certificate to ensure compliance.
Key Challenges
The stern shaft cylinder liner is a key safety part and must come with a class society certificate; conventional procurement cycle is long, and dispatching from manufacturer to terminal and then forwarding to anchorage generally takes 24+ hours; anchorage is far from the terminal, requiring dedicated workboats for unloading and handover.
Solution
AMTS responded immediately from spot inventory: first, allocated 1 set of AFT LINER (SKF SC3-530) from 5-year warranty, ABS-certified stock; second, arranged a dedicated vehicle from Shanghai to Zhoushan overnight; third, coordinated the terminal and workboats in advance to ensure immediate loading and dispatch to anchorage upon arrival.
